So still waiting on some word on job. While all hangs in the balance I’m spending lots of quality time. This afternoon Daniel, Micah and I danced the interpenetration of the trinity barefoot in the sun while smoking those beautiful Camel girl menthols. During Kierkegaard class I zoned out and got really jazzed about making Microsoft Word art, and getting rather sentimental thinking off how much I want to do some family memoirs. Then, Megan and I talked tea houses, puppet theatres, and women’s wars, ate peanut stew, and practiced our unique renditions of the chicken dance (Arrested Development inspired) for tomorrow’s Div School Prom, while Mark and Daniel worked on bikes. I ended up with Mark’s bicycle walk and jazz hands which I blame it on my new jazz shoes—I’ve been bad shopping. And am so poor. So bad spending money. And tonight’s no better. I’m going with Dave to see Spoon. Maybe soon gonna get a job to pay for jazz shoes and student loans and get my papers written soon? Boy have I got stories for you. I miss and am going to miss so many and so much.

up in the air

Lots of stuff’s been happening leaving me with little to say. Broadly:

The weather’s getting warmer. It’s been getting hard to do work. I have to do work. All I do is sleep and social things. I have to get a job for next year. People ask me about my fing job four times a day. I have to pack up my life. I’ve been having boy trouble- anything about a boy, let alone any number of boys must be trouble at this point, though good trouble, I tell you. I haven’t been getting enough sleep. And, just not enough time.

Tally it up:

I have to leave behind the much loved blue bike, a great job, a pair of wonderful housemates and a great number of other wonderful friends. (among other things)

I am acquiring a beautifully charming new red bike, a new house full of wonderful old friends, and recovering a great number of other wonderful old friendships. Job?

But regardless of how this looks on paper it’s really hard to translate.

Happy? Sad? Regret? Anticipation?

Hence, though lots been happening, I have little to say.

what the f

So, maybe Ricki and Smash Mouth woulda been better.

Today's YDN:

The Yale Student Activities Committee has finalized contracts with three artists — T.I., Sister Hazel and The Format — who will perform at Spring Fling on Tuesday, May 1, Spring Fling co-Coordinator Diego Iturbe ’09 said Monday.

YSAC selected the acts, which will cost a total of $95,000, in an effort to put together a lineup that will be entertaining for students of diverse musical tastes, Iturbe said. He said this year’s total of three acts, compared with last year’s two, will enliven the show and give it a more concert-like feel. “We feel that this year’s show should be a great success because it encompasses various musical genres and should create a high level of energy,” Iturbe said. “These performers are all unique, making for one well-rounded day of musical euphoria.”

-by which they mean crap.

This year’s acts will cost a combined $95,000 — $70,000 for T.I., $17,500 for Sister Hazel and $7,500 for The Format, Spring Fling co-Coordinator Carrie Nguyen ’09 said.

-a $25,ooo waste of time.

Southern folk-rock group Sister Hazel earned national attention for its 1997 single “All for You.” Their most recent release, “Absolutely,” came out in 2006, and a sixth studio album is anticipated at the end of this year or in early 2008.

- in other words, a one hit wonder from the late 90's band- in that case, wouldn't Smash Mouth be better? And who the fuck is The Format?

The $45,000 of the event’s budget not devoted to the artists will be spent on police and concert security officers, electricity and facilities charges, and production items such as lights, a stage and sound equipment, Nguyen said.

-$45, 000 to keep out the kids who really care about seeing T.I.

However, T.I.'s not looking so hot himself. On an April 10th webblog:

Rapper T.I. may be faced with a lawsuit from Duke University, after the rapper arrived late and walked off the stage early during the university's Cameron Rocks! concert reports AllHip Hop. According to Duke's student newspaper The Chronicle, T.I. was paid $70,000 to perform for a full hour at the Cameron Indoor Stadium, but he abruptly exited the stage and ended his show 40 minutes into his set.

TI was late because he attended an unrelated dinner at P.F. Chang's China Bistro.

-Truly Gwar would have been better.

Word On The Web

The Yale Herald:

March 30th, 2007

Pranksters across campus will be glad to know that although Yalies are smart, they are also incredibly gullible. Case in point: the e-mail sent to thousands of unsuspecting students late on Mon., Mar. 26, proclaiming Smashmouth and Ricky Martin as Kings of the Fling. Although some quickly recognized the deception, others believed the middle-school remix and a flurry of delighted and disgusted Yalies began to flood each others’ inboxes via panlists. Perhaps even more disappointing than Yalies’ simplistic faith is the fact that we’re still in the dark on who is, in fact, performing. Rumors are flying, though YSAC has so far kept mum—but as a certain rapper would say, bring ‘em out, bring ‘em out.

Other rumors found:

Boards of Canada with HIJK

"last lineup i heard was gwar and alabama thunderpussy."

"I thought it was supposed to be T.I..... and I will continue believing that, as picturing him on the spring fling stage rapping about the trap will bring me endlessssss amounts of joy."

I'm hoping:

Modest Mouse, MIA, or Beyonce, though I'd be happy with Gwar.

www.bylime.blogspot.com

emily kindly posted some pics.

i went to church tonight. and for the first time in a long time i was really, truly, happy. besides the fact that easter rejoicing it began with a large flaming christmas tree and a professor singing like a broadway angel, and proceeded to include singing, dancing, a water fight, easter egg throwing, decorating, and consuming, david sedaris anecdotes, and a much more generous portion of bread (from around the world) and wine, than the usual eucharistic fare- on top of all that there really felt like there was love and joy in that room, for each other and maybe even for something real. i mean, don't get me wrong, i don't know about it all still. but regardless, i am reminded how valuable community is to me, and how regardless i will always need to be a part of that.

Bomb Shelled Nut Jobs

Last night, again. As I’ve always said, it is a good or bad sign when I end up with one earring. That these ones actually had firm backs and it still ended up that way says something: Easter Dinner- the initial plan, more like a small family affair, then, turns out that we like lots of peeps and next thing we know we’ve got a sit down, formal dinner for eighteen on our hands/in our living room.To bootz. Dave and I ate with chopsticks because we ran out of forks. So, get this: caramelized cauliflower, stuffed mushrooms, deviled eggs, blood bunny punch, beer, and wine, oh, the bloody bunny punch; a big ol turkey, mashed potatoes, African cabbage and couscous salads, artichoke and white been salad, baked baby carrots, two delish green salads, baked fennel, fresh bread, wine, lots of wine; lots of chocolate, rhubarb pie with ice cream, arm wrestling a woman in my living room, chocolate tarts with candied grapefruit peel, cranberry cake, lots of wine. The night ended with Zach and Cate riding / nearly falling off the tandem to Bar. Cate and I dancing, Mark feeding us drinks. Me accidentally putting my game on the Parts and Labor guy and buying a spongy orange t-shirt I didn't need, and lots of drunk dialing; ended with Cate and I rolling around on the ground next to our bikes, laughing. And no earring.
