Very Good News

Tracy's cochlear implant got turned on today and already it is working better than she had dared to hope. She told me she heard it rain for the first time in years.

Thursday night Emily and Jacob came to town! I got to keep them the whole weekend. It was really nice to see them.

We walked around some, but mostly just ate yummy food. Indian! Italian! Mexican! More Mexican and mostly Mexican!

Jacob really liked the leaves that look like flowers.

Saturday after a soapbox derby we took it upon ourselves to eat cheese in bed. That night we were supposed to go to a party with my roommate. So we got wigs and got all done up and put them on and popped some wine and though we meant to go out, pretty much stayed in bed wine and wigs for most of the night. Emily and I, Emily still wearing her wig, did manage to stagger across the street to The Lone Palm for one drink, Emily, the whole time worrying that the man who was trying to pick her up would try to tousle her hair and notice it was made of plastic.

Emily bought some great gems. She loved Buffalo Exchange. I toyed with buying this ass tight sequin gown, but I couldn't quite figure how I'd make a fish head to go with it. The guy at the register suggested I wear it zipper side forward which I'm sure would add some spice to my life.

Sunday Afternoon was crisp, finally like fall and so we fired up the fire place. Monday when they left I was a little sad.

Tomorrow with the strong assistance of my adept in the kitchen roommate Evan gonna rustle up some Canadian thanksgiving. Even with three Canadians. Four if we can get the one who works in the coffee shop. So I am thankful. I am. I do miss ye who hail from Nova Scotia, though. So I will be even more thankful when I get one Emily coming to me this coming weekend.

"What happens in Reno stays in Reno."

That’s what brother George said. Today Sister Anna gave me Korean pear. Crisp like an apple, it was better than any pear I’d ever eaten. Other night got paged to visit this rather robust Irish catholic woman who begged “God, it is my time. I just want to be with St. Peter,” whose eighth daughter told her, “Mom, you can’t go yet, you can’t live without your coffee and St. Peter hasn’t plugged in the coffee maker yet.” Unlike the Irish catholic woman I saw dying last week, from what I could tell, she was healthy as a horse. I tried to decipher for her the ways of God. My job is better than rocket science. Yesterday this Carmelite sister tried to recruit me if you know what I mean. I told her that though ‘such commitment’ is nice and admirable and all, I think someday I’ll marry. She proceeded to tell me how ‘those princes they try to get you to live with them out of wedlock,’ so I think she knew what I meant. Had the best cup of coffee evar tonight at Philz. With mint on top. Tomorrow is a much needed day or rest. I plan to see MC Hammer in the morning.
